SALT LAKE CITY – A community came together Friday night to show support for the son of slain officer Doug Barney.
Salt Lake City police officers along with other members of the community surprised 13-year-old Jacob Barney at the Microsoft Store at City Creek.
The event featured Xbox games and some of Jacob’s favorite characters from Star Wars.
“I love the support, it’s really fun to come out and play with other people,” Jacob Barney said.
Event organizers said the surprise is important because it shows Jacob he's not alone and has help to cope with the loss of his father.
Unified Police Department Officer Doug Barney, 44, was killed in the line of duty in January while responding to the scene of a traffic accident. He was shot by a suspect who left the scene of that crash.
