SALT LAKE CITY — A single-vehicle accident on Redwood Road ended with a man impaled by the top rail of a chain-link fence Saturday morning.
At about 7:30 a.m., a motorist was driving on Redwood Road near 800 South when for an unknown reason he crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into a chain-link fence, according to Salt Lake City police.
The impact caused the top rail of the fence to impale the driver in the chest resulting in life-threatening injuries, police say.
One passenger was in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Police say the man also sustained injuries but they were not life threatening.
Both directions of traffic on Redwood Road were closed for several hours.
It is unknown at this time what caused the driver to crash into the fence.
