Illinois man calls 911, tells dispatcher he ‘just killed’ 19 elementary school students

WAUKEGAN, Ill. — Authorities arrested a man after he called 911 and told the dispatcher he killed 19 children in Lake County, Illinois.

According to a statement from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, a man called the office on Tuesday and spoke with a dispatcher. The person on the phone said, “I just killed 19 of your elementary school students in Lake County” and hung up.

Authorities immediately launched an investigation and discovered that the caller was Robert J. Simmons, 61.

According to the sheriff’s office, Simmons was believed to have been calling from the 3000 block of Belvidere Road.

Simmons later admitted to placing the call, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Simmons is being held in the Lake County Jail on $50,000.00 bail.  He is due in court again on March 21.
