SALT LAKE CITY – Salt Lake Community College held a celebration Wednesday to honor their men’s basketball team for winning the National Junior College Athletic Association Championship.
The team won first place last weekend in Hutchinson, Kansas, and on Wednesday staff and students hosted a victory party at the school’s Redwood Road campus.
“It’s always been a dream for me to be part of March Madness, and to really be part of a tournament and to win a national championship, you know a lot of people can't say that," said Tyler Rawson, who plays for SLCC. "It has been a dream come true for me, you know, it still feels surreal right now, still trying to soak it in.”
The team’s coach says many of his players will now move on to teams at four-year schools.
