SALT LAKE CITY – The “Love Utah Give Utah” campaign ends at midnight Thursday, and earlier in the day organizers gathered at “Love Central” to get the ball rolling on a day devoted to charitable giving.

“Love Utah Give Utah” is an annual event, and last year the effort raised $1.2 million for various non-profit organizations across the state.

This year, event organizers said their goal is to raise $1.6 million. As of around 7:30 p.m., the group’s website stated the effort had raised more than $1 million.

Alex Eaton with the Community Foundation of Utah said they believe giving is part of what makes the Beehive State great.

“We are the most giving state in the country,” Eaton said. “This is a place for philanthropy and volunteering, and this is what we’re about. And we just want everybody to get out and give back, because we already do that just today’s an important day.”

There are nearly 500 non-profit groups and schools you can donate to this year, click here for details and to follow the fundraising efforts.
