BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. — A member of a hunting club in North Carolina came across a decapitated body Thursday, and the body was reportedly partially decomposed and naked.
WAVY in North Carolina reports the body was found Thursday night in Bertie County and that the State Bureau of Investigations is treating the case as a homicide.
Police reportedly believe the body was in the location for about a week before it was found. A sheriff told reporters the head is missing but the rest of the remains are intact.
The sheriff stated they are hopeful tattoos on the body will help them identify the deceased.
“We are talking to family, friends at this time trying to positively id him, to make sure it is this person that we think it is,” Sheriff John Holley told WAVY.
