OGDEN, Utah -- A man from Alabama is accusing the Ogden Police Department of using excessive force against him after he stopped for aid during a medical episode.
Harold Torbett has filed a lawsuit over the incident, which occurred in February when he stopped at a police station for assistance.
Torbett said he stopped at a police station because he was having issues related to his diabetes, but he claims an unloaded and disassembled .22-caliber handgun in his possession prompted police to use force against him.
The man alleges that police threw him to the ground upon seeing the gun and that the impact shattered his hip. Torbett provided surveillance footage from the incident.
FOX 13 News has reached out to the attorney representing Ogden PD, but has not yet received a response.
