PROVO, Utah – The Provo School District has unanimously agreed to sell the Provo High School property to Brigham Young University; $25 million for the 25 acres of property.

In a statement, Board President Julie Rash said, “Today we are excited to announce that we are moving ahead with a Purchase and Sale Agreement with Brigham Young University.  The selling price that has been negotiated is $25 for 25 acres of the Provo High School property. Several interested and qualified buyers expressed interest in the property over the last several months.  We are confident that we have reached the best arrangement for the students of Provo High and the community.”

District officials said the sale of this property is contingent on the results of about two months of geological and other studies being performed by Brigham Young University.

If there are no issues with the findings, the project closing date will be sometime in June or July 2016.

According to school officials, as part of the sale, Brigham Young University has agreed to lease the facilities and grounds (including the stadium complex) to Provo City School District for 30 months rent-free while the new Provo High School is being built.

The district said the groundbreaking for the new school is Wednesday, April 27 at 4 p.m. at the new high school location, 1300 North Lakeshore Dr.
