GRAND STAIRCASE-ESCALANTE NATIONAL MONUMENT — A Colorado man has died after a falling from a cliff at Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

According to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old Andrew Mark Davis, of Ridgeway, Colo., was camping at the monument with a female companion. A news release from the sheriff’s office said Davis walked away from the campsite around 4 p.m. Wednesday and never returned.

Davis was reported missing Thursday morning. Garfield County Search and Rescue located Davis’ body a short distance from the campsite.

The news release said Davis, an avid hiker and mountain climber, had fallen approximately 200 feet.
