Truck pulls down 5 power poles after catching low-hanging wire

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Streets were closed and about 600 are without power in St. George after a truck hit a wire and pulled down five power poles.

Officers said 1200 E. is closed from 100 S. to 400 S. because five power poles were down. According to St. George Public Safety, a Boulevard Home Furnishings delivery truck caught a low hanging wire around 11:30 a.m., pulling the poles down.

St. George Police said the Ridgeview Gardens Retirement Home was evacuated due to the power outage.

Authorities said power should be restored before 8 p.m. Friday.
