LAKE POINT, Utah — A driver traveling in the wrong direction on I-80 near Stansbury Park caused a crash Monday morning, leading to a significant traffic backup.
The crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. near mile post 99. According to the Utah Highway Patrol, a black Volkswagen vehicle was heading west in the eastbound lanes of I-80 when it clipped a truck. The truck rolled into a cable barrier separating the east and westbound lanes.
Lawrence Hopper of UHP said the Volkswagen driver is a 57-year-old Tooele man. Hopper said the man did not appear to be impaired, and a medical condition may have been a factor that led to him driving the wrong way. He suffered a minor hand injury and the other driver was not injured.
UHP expects to have the crash scene cleared by 8 a.m.
