Bangladesh factory fire leaves 22 dead, police say

 TONGI, Bangladesh – A factory fire early Saturday morning left 23 people dead near the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka early Saturday, authorities said.

The fire started when a boiler of the four-story factory exploded while employees were inside the facility in in Gazipur district, local police chief Harunur Rashid said.

At least 50 people are hospitalized with injuries, and the death toll is expected to go up as rescue efforts continue, according to the police chief.

Hundreds of firefighters are on the scene attempting to extinguish the fire. The cause of the explosion is unknown.
