SALT LAKE CITY -- In nine days the lights with turn on and the curtain will pull back on a new theater in downtown Salt Lake City.

George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Theater will have its grand opening on Oct. 21-23. Officials say the opening of the facility will put it center stage in the theater world, attracting Broadway shows and big-name concerts.

“It is the most modern, most beautiful state-of-art theater in the country right now,” said Cami Munk, communications manager Salt lake County Center of the Arts.

Because of the new theater, Munk said, Salt Lake City will get Hamilton on its first national tour.

On Tuesday, FOX 13 News’ Kiersten Nunez got a sneak peek inside the building. A sea of sparkling lights shine down on the magnificent main hall's stage and unique seating.

Outside the doors of the main hall a large open public space shows off work by local artists, from the glass panels to the floor.

The acoustics also don’t fail to impress throughout the hall.

The theater is anticipated to be an attraction to downtown.

“This will be a destination,” said Steve Swisher, principal with GTS Development. “This will be one of the places where someone is in from out of town and they go where we should go they'll say Main and Regent District. They'll say go by the Eccles Theater."
