TAYLORSVILLE, Utah -- Halloween is still a few days away, but hundreds of kids got dressed up and said, “Trunk-or-Treat!” in Taylorsville Friday night.
The pouring rain didn’t put a damper on the Halloween spirit in the parking lot of Prince of Peace Church.
In fact, the buckets of rain couldn’t match up to the buckets of candy.
Costumed characters passed out sweet treats from their decked-out trunks, bringing wonder and joy to kids’ faces. Among the variety of themes were: Dia de los Muertos, Back to the Future, Alice in Wonderland, Ghost Busters and even modern themes like Snapchat.
Prince of Peace Pastor Noah Bater said the event has grown tremendously in its nine years.
“[It] started out as a small, little eight trunks for our congregation,” he said.
Now, city police officers and firefighters join in the fun, and the event doubles as a food drive for the Taylorsville Food Pantry.
They see more than a thousand trick-or-treating faces filter through, as kids in costume enjoy the fun.
“Your imagination is your limits, so whatever you can think of,” Pastor Bater said. “We’ve got some great people who really get into this. You can look around, it's just an awesome event.”
Pastor Bater said it’s also a good alternative to neighborhood trick-or-treating.
“Just trying to create a safe environment for people who maybe don't want to do that anymore,” he said.
So with music, costumes, candy, fire pits, s’mores, and fun: Trunk or Treat is for everyone.
