SANDY, Utah — A Utah Transit Authority TRAX train and a vehicle were involved in a collision in Sandy Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesman for UTA said the crash occurred at 200 E 8720 S.

According to UTA, a crossing gate at the intersection was down, but an SUV driver attempted to cross anyway.

The train conductor used the train's emergency brake in an attempt to avoid hitting the SUV, but could not stop in time, the UTA spokesman said.

The back of the SUV sustained heavy damage, but no injuries were reported.

Another TRAX train was deployed to the area to transport passengers from the first train.
