Health Dept.: Friday's report shows 'artificially high' increase in Utah COVID-19 cases

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Health's COVID-19 report for Friday shows an additional 552 confirmed cases, but the latest case count number is "artificially high" due to a delay in lab reporting.

144 of the 552 additional cases are from lab testing that goes back to early July, the report said.

Utah now has 45,796 positive COVID-19 cases.

589,817 people in Utah have been tested for the disease.

The state's rolling seven-day average for positive tests is 369 per day.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 2,744 people in Utah have required hospitalization for COVID-19. Of those, 171 remain hospitalized.

360 people in Utah have died of COVID-19. The seven new deaths announced Friday are:

  • Female, between 65-84, San Juan County resident, long-term care facility resident
  • Female, between 65-84, Utah County resident, hospitalized at time of death
  • Female - between 45-64, Salt Lake County resident, hospitalized at time of death
  • Female, between 65-84, Salt Lake County resident, long-term care facility resident
  • Female, between 65-84, Salt Lake County resident, long-term care facility resident
  • Female, between 65-84, Salt Lake County resident, long-term care facility resident
  • Male, older than 85, Salt Lake County resident, long-term care facility resident

36,679 of Utah's cases are considered "recovered." A case with a diagnosis date of more than three weeks ago, who has not passed away, is considered recovered.
