SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Health reported 19 new COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday and 2,928 new cases.
That brings the state's death toll to 1,096.
The spike in new cases brought the seven day average of new cases per day to 2,600, up from 2,540 from Tuesday. The percent of positive lab tests is 23.02 percent, down slightly from Tuesday.
Hospitalizations increased by three to 556. That's still down 49 from the high of 605 on December 5.
The newly reported deaths include:

- Female, between 65-84, Salt Lake County resident, long-term care facility resident

- Female, between 65-84, Salt Lake County resident, not hospitalized at time of death
- Male, between 65-84, Davis County resident, hospitalized at time of death
- Male, between 65-84, Utah County resident, hospitalized at time of death

- Male, older than 85, Wasatch County resident, long-term care facility resident
