KEARNS, Utah — A 5-year old boy is in extremely critical condition after a pickup truck hit the boy and drove off, according to the Unified Police Department.

Sergeant Melody Gray said the pickup truck turned from Park Wood Drive onto Longmore Drive in Kearns around 7:20 p.m. Thursday evening, and hit the boy. Sgt. Gray indicated that the boy had gotten out onto the road, and that it was dark at the time.

"The driver stopped for a few seconds, looked out, and then drove away," Sgt. Gray explained. "And then that's when the little boy was discovered."

She said people took the boy inside a house, and because of his condition, they left for the hospital immediately. Sgt. Gray said the child is in extremely critical condition at Primary Children's Hospital.

Police officers went door-to-door in the area, looking for anyone who saw the hit-and-run, or captured clues on surveillance or doorbell video.

Sgt. Gray said the pickup truck is described as older and light in color, with a darker colored, mismatched driver side door.

She is hoping the driver will come forward.
