RIVERTON, Utah — Costco Wholesale submitted a formal commercial building plan for a new store in Riverton on Friday, June 19. The proposed location is at the northeast corner of 13200 South Mountain View Corridor, just north of Mountain View Village.

The application comes after months of coordination between Costco, Riverton City officials, and Suburban Land Reserve, the owner of the proposed site.

“We are excited to see Costco submit a site plan application for a new Riverton location " said Mayor Trent Staggs in a press release. “We have been actively working with Costco for many months and are pleased to see them moving forward.”

According to the proposal, the Costco store is expected to be 160,000 square feet in size. In addition to the main building, the 19.19-acre property will include a Costco gas station and more than 800 parking stalls. The proposal also includes plans to create a right-in, right-out connection with Mountain View Corridor, allowing for enhanced access to the location beyond the primary access point from Eagles Flight Road at 4570 West.

Costco’s proposal comes as part of an overall development agreement for Riverton’s west side between Riverton City and Suburban Land Reserve. The agreement includes both commercial and residential development, with ongoing construction happening in the area of Mountain View Village.

The hope is that upon completion, the Riverton Costco will attract tens of thousands of customers from Riverton, Herriman, Bluffdale, and western South Jordan among other areas.

“This development will benefit the citizens of Riverton for years into the future,” said Staggs. “Not just for the great products and services Costco provides, but due to the sales tax revenue that will be generated.”

There is currently no estimate for when the Costco will open to the public. Before construction can begin, the proposal must undergo a formal review and approval by the Riverton City Planning Commission.
