SPANISH FORK, Utah — Search and rescues crews were dispatched to rescue an injured skier in Spanish Fork Canyon Wednesday evening.
According to Spencer Cannon with Utah County Sheriff's Office, a call came in around 5:25 p.m. reporting that a 40-year-old back country skier collided with a tree and injured his head.
The skier was unable to move and the accident happened at above 7,500 feet so a helicopter has been called in. Initally, the helicopter was been unable to get the skier into a basket to take to the hospital. Officials were able to successfully load the skier and transport him to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The incident happened on U.S. Forest Service land but Utah County handles calls in the area and in the higher elevations.
