WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — An apartment fire in West Valley City late Thursday night forced a family out of its home.

The fire at 3600 West Parkway Blvd. began around 9 p.m.

Crews responded quickly and were able to knock down the fire and contain it to the bedroom of just one unit.

"We had observant people driving by that once they saw it they called 911, they reported it," said West Valley Fire Battalion Chief Jed Peters. "Like I said we had a lot of people call 911 but that's better than everyone driving by thinking that somebody else did, so it was nice to have people call 911 and have them alert us."

No one was injured and the displaced family is staying with relatives.

Damage is estimated to be about $20,000 and the cause is being investigated.
