Intruder shot and killed at LDS Missionary Training Center in Sao Paulo, Brazil

SAO PAULO, Brazil — An intruder was shot and killed inside the Missionary Training Center in Sao Paulo, Brazil Wednesday according to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

An man armed with a knife entered the missionary training center early in the morning, and security guards were able to detain him near the reception desk until police arrived, according to a statement from Nei Garcia, Director of Public Affairs for the Brazil Area.

The intruder attempted to attack police, and was shot and killed by police.

None of the missionaries or MTC staff were harmed during this incident.

Families of the missionaries and staff are being informed.

Church officials are working closely with local authorities and are grateful for their efforts to respond and investigate, Garcia said.

Missionaries and staff will be provided with any needed support.

The church offered prayers and support to both for the missionaries and the family of the individual who was killed.
