SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah — South Salt Lake Police have arrested a man accused of starting fires outside a KFC on Main Street and an Astro Burger on State St. earlier this week.
Steven Matthew Hunter, 46, faces a first-degree felony charge of aggravated arson in connection with the incident, which police said occurred on Wednesday morning.
Officers arrived at the Astro Burger at 3877 S State St., where they found a large box full of garbage on fire in front of the restaurant's north door, under a pavilion.
Police said the fire was burning all the way to the ceiling of the pavilion and Hunter was seated nearby.
According to a probable cause statement, the restaurant was open at the time and there were employees inside.
Hunter was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail.
