SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah — South Salt Lake Police have arrested a man accused of starting fires outside a KFC on Main Street and an Astro Burger on State St. earlier this week.

Steven Matthew Hunter, 46, faces a first-degree felony charge of aggravated arson in connection with the incident, which police said occurred on Wednesday morning.

Officers arrived at the Astro Burger at 3877 S State St., where they found a large box full of garbage on fire in front of the restaurant's north door, under a pavilion.

Police said the fire was burning all the way to the ceiling of the pavilion and Hunter was seated nearby.

According to a probable cause statement, the restaurant was open at the time and there were employees inside.

Hunter was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail.
