BRIGHAM CITY, Utah — A Box Elder County man died Tuesday morning in an explosion in Brigham City.
The explosion occurred at HyPerComp Engineering, Inc., at 156 S 800 W, in Brigham City.
HyPerComp Engineering is a company that manufactures high-pressure storage tanks.
“They build high-pressure tanks and test them. They do a lot of R&D work. Frankly a national asset. There’s real talent here in their organization," said Rolf Johns, who owns a nearby business.
Authorities could not immediately confirm whether or not one of the tanks exploded.
A Brigham City Police spokesman said the victim, whose name was not released, was the only person inside the building at the time of the explosion.
The victim lived in Box Elder County, was in his thirties and had a family, the BCPD spokesman said, but he was not a resident of Brigham City.
"This is devastating. These are good strong people who will rebuild and we need them to do that. But it will be hard for those that had a loss today," Johns said.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the explosion. OSHA will also conduct an investigation.
