WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — A man is in custody after leading police on a chase through West Valley City early Friday morning.

Police responded to a report of shots fired near a hotel at Decker Lake Lane and 3100 South just after midnight.

They were able to locate the car that witnesses say had been involved.

The driver sped off and tried to get away from officers from several law enforcement agencies.

Police used spikes to stop the car, but the driver and a passenger got out and ran.

Officers caught up with the two trying to get a ride from a friend in the neighborhood.

That’s when investigators discovered there may not have been a shooting to begin with.

“After our investigation we weren't able to locate a victim at the hotel,” said Sgt. Robert Brinton with the West Valley City police department. “We weren't able to locate any evidence that suggests a shooting or a gun was fired."

No one was hurt and the driver of the car is facing felony fleeing charges.
