TOOELE COUNTY, Utah — Crews rescued a 36-year-old New Mexico man who called for help in Tooele County Monday night.

According to the Tooele County Sheriff's Office, the man flew to Utah to go hiking, and he went for a hike in the Deseret Peak Trail area around 3 p.m.

Around 8:45, the hiker called for help. Emergency crews told him he would need to spend the night, and they would send a helicopter to find him Tuesday morning.

The man checked in by phone every hour, but the battery in his phone died around 5 a.m.

When crews reached the man Tuesday morning, he was cold but otherwise OK.
