ST. GEORGE, Utah — The Bureau of Land Management's St. George Field Office announced Wednesday that some recreation sites would be immediately closed until further notice because of damage from a recent wildfire.

The Cottonwood Trail fire was mapped at 1,631 acres and was caused by a tire blow-out. The fire happened off the I-15 mile marker 17, which is close to Harrisburg.

The Red Cliffs Recreation Area, Cottonwood Trailhead and trails associated with it have been temporarily closed.

In a press release sent out Wednesday, St. George Field Manager Keith Rigtrup said, "We are working quickly to repair the damages to the infrastructure so we can reopen the sites for everyone to enjoy."
