SALT LAKE COUNTY — High winds and heavy snowfall have forced officials at Snowbird Ski Resort and Alta Ski Area to take rare precautions Thursday morning.
At Snowbird, the resort is closed until noon at the earliest.
"Storm intensity continues to remain strong with high winds and heavy snowfall. At this time, the resort will remain closed and we will re-evaluate at 12pm," a tweet from Snowbird said.
At Alta, interlodge travel is prohibited. Anyone who ignores the notice to avoid going outside is subject to a fine.
The Utah Department of Transportation also closed SR-210, the road in Little Cottonwood Canyon that leads to the two resorts, for avalanche control work. As of 9:45 a.m., the road remained closed to the general public and the reopening time was TBD.
