ST. GEORGE, Utah — A man was arrested early Friday morning after police say he shot a teenage girl in the head, killing her.
St. George Police were called to a report of a possible gunshot in the area of 600 North and 2450 East Thursday at about 8:40 p.m., where they found a 14-year-old girl with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Police say most witnesses and the suspect fled before they arrived, but they were able to identify the suspect as 18-year-old Anthony Vega. One witness said Vega called them, admitted to the shooting and told them his location, where police responded and located him. Police say he initially gave a false name, claiming he was not Anthony Vega and that the suspect was still on the run.
He later admitted to police that he shot the victim. Witnesses added that the group of people at the home were smoking marijuana together, and Vega had been "playing" with the handgun, pointing it at people and pulling the trigger.
Vega was arrested on charges of murder, obstruction of justice, firearm possession/use by a restricted person, and giving false personal identity to a peace officer.
