CENTERVILLE, Utah — A man suspected of shooting and killing a high school student in Sonora, California was arrested in Centerville early Saturday morning.
Authorities received information about of a man hiding out in a camping trailer behind a residence on Friday.
After receiving additional information from the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department in California, Centerville Police contacted the Bountiful Metropolitan SWAT team to assist with the planning and service of the California State Warrant of Arrest.
Utilizing a non-lethal flash grenade, authorities were able to safely take 20-year-old Joshua Rodriguez into custody just after midnight.
A knife, cell phone, and marijuana were collected from the scene following the arrest. A female who was with Rodriguez at the time of arrest was detained for an interview, but released without charges.
Rodriguez is suspected of shooting 17-year-old Eric Aguiar in the parking lot of Sonora High School on September 16.
He will be held in the Davis County Jail pending extradition proceedings.
