SALT LAKE CITY — University of Utah campus police are trying to ease concerns about a religious group that has been purportedly recruiting students to a late night “Bible study” at the student Union.

According to University Police, a handful of female students came forward with concerns about being approached by individuals who wanted them to join a late night, or after-hours Bible study group in the University Union.

This prompted police to issue a campus-wide alert Thursday evening.

On Friday, however, University of Utah Police cleared the religious group of any wrongdoing.

“This afternoon the University of Utah Police Department met with an organizer with the World Mission Society Church of God,” said Lt. Jason Hinojosa. After meeting with (the organizer), police do not believe there is any reason to be alarmed or concerned with the invitations to bible study. The organization was inviting students to a 12:30pm bible study in the student union.”

Lt. Hinojosa said if students, faculty or staff experiences anything that makes them feel uncomfortable, they should notify police.
