Teenager seriously injured in I-15 crash, interstate closed for investigation

MURRAY, Utah — Southbound Interstate 15 is closed at 5300 south as police investigate a crash that sent a 15-year-old to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to Sgt. Nick Street with Utah Highway Patrol, around 6 p.m. Wednesday a white subaru driven by a 19-year-old was attempting to cut between a dump truck and a pumper truck but there was not enough room for the car to pass and the car clipped the dump truck with with rear driver side of the Subaru. The vehicle ended up spinning out several times and struck the pumper truck, ripping the passenger door off , the 15-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. The victim was rushed to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray. No update was given on the 19-year-old driver.

Street says I-15 will be closed for several hours as crews investigate. Travelers in the area should use State Street, Redwood Road or the I-215 belt route as an alternate.
