MAGNA, Utah — A man is in custody and Unified Police Department is investigating after an armed and barricaded domestic situation in Magna Thursday night.
According to UPD, a woman in her 40s contacted police about a 69-year-old male in her home swinging a golf club around and hitting objects and threatening to strangler her. UPD responded to the area of 8000 W and 2700 S in Magna.
Officers soon discovered the two were related and said there is extensive history between the two that dates back to 2016. The history between the two and the man is known to have weapons is the reason for the large police presence.
Police were able to safely get the woman out of the home by calling her phone. The male did not comply and officers made their way into the home and attempt to apprehend the man. The suspect initially resisted before being tased and taken into custody. No officer was injured during the arrest.
The area of 2700 S is closed from 8000 W to 8050 W and Police urge residents to remain in their home until the situation clears. Motorists are asked to find an alternate route.
