A 20-year-old missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has passed away while serving in his home country of Nigeria.
According to a statement from the church issued on New Year's Day, Elder Samuel Joseph Iseh, Jr. experienced a sudden health episode unrelated to COVID-19, and was transported to a local hospital, where he passed away.
Elder Iseh was from Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and had been serving as a missionary for the church since May 2019.
Many missionaries for the LDS church returned to their home countries early in the pandemic, though plans were announced in November to gradually start sending them abroad again.
