BALTIMORE -- Protesters toppled a statue of Christopher Columbus Saturday night, in the latest instance of a monument depicting a colonizer, or slavery advocate, being taken down.
The statue was located in Baltimore's Little Italy neighborhood. Videos showed the demonstrators erupting in cheers and applause as it was pulled down:
The Baltimore Sun said the statue was dedicated in 1984, and is one of three monuments in the city dedicated to Christopher Columbus.
Videos posted to social media also show protesters throwing the statue in the harbor:
