TAMPA — A man who wanted to kill, rape and eat a 13-year-old child was sentenced Monday to 40 years in federal prison.

An investigation into Alexander Nathan Barter, 23, began in Oct. 2018 after he posted an advertisement to a dark web site that read, "I’d like to try necrophilia and cannibalism, and see how it feels to take a life. If you’d be willing to let me kill you, are in the U.S. (preferably in the south) and can travel by car, contact me."

A special agent with Homeland Security Investigations posed as the father of a 13-year-old and contacted Barter.

In messages exchanged between Barter and the undercover agent, Barter expressed a willingness in "killing, raping and eating" the child, KTLA reports.

After setting up a meeting site, Barter gave the agent instructions on what to tell the child and how to conceal evidence.

Barter appeared at the meeting site in Texas on Oct. 18, 2018 with a knife, trash bag, cellphone and tablet. Authorities arrested Barter after apprehending him at the meeting location.

Barter pleaded guilty to attempted coercion, enticement of a minor and distribution of child pornography charges. Following his prison sentence, Barter will be subjected to a lifetime of supervised release.
