CLEARWATER, Fla. — Professional wrestling superstar Hulk Hogan has died at the age of 71.

According to the Clearwater Police Department, the legendary showman died after suffering cardiac arrest at his Florida home.

Hogan was one of the most iconic professional wrestlers in history, rising to fame in the 1980s as the face of the World Wrestling Federation — now World Wrestling Entertainment.

He helped bring professional wrestling into the mainstream with his larger-than-life persona and signature “Hulkamania” catchphrases.

One of Hogan’s most memorable matches came at WrestleMania III in 1987, when he faced André the Giant. His body slam of the 7-foot-4-inch, 520-pound wrestler remains one of the most iconic moments in wrestling history

In the mid-1990s, Hogan left WWE for rival promotion WCW, where he shocked fans by turning heel and joining the villainous New World Order (nWo). He eventually returned to WWE in 2002, briefly reviving his “Hulkamania” persona and continuing to wrestle part-time.

Hogan was a 12-time world champion, with six coming at each promotion.

Outside the ring, Hogan appeared in numerous films and television shows and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005.

He was married to Linda Claridge from 1983 to 2009. The couple had two children: Brooke and Nick Bollea.
