After hosting one event in Septemberand another in October, Apple hosted yet another virtual event on Tuesday.

This time, the company's main focus was on their new computer lineup, their new mac software, and the first family of chips designed by Apple specifically for the Mac called M1.

Apple Silicon M1

The tech giant says M1 combines lots of different technologies into a single chip and features what they call a unified memory architecture for improved performance and efficiency.

M1 is supposed to deliver up to 3.5x faster CPU performance, up to 6x faster GPU performance, and up to 15x faster machine learning, all while giving users up to 2x longer battery life than previous-generation Macs.

Apple says this is the beginning of a transition to a new family of chips (Apple silicon) and it's expected to take about two years to complete.

MacBook Air 2020

This new Macbook Air model keeps the familiar design but has one big thing missing... the fan.

It also has the new M1 chip inside allowing it to export a project for the web with iMovie up to 3x faster and add 3D effects into video in Final Cut Pro up to 5x faster.

Apple says users will also be able to play back and edit multiple streams of full-quality, 4K ProRes video in Final Cut Pro without dropping a frame.

The company also promises that exporting photos from Adobe Lightroom will be twice as fast on this new MacBook Air.

Apple also claims you'll be able to watch more movies and TV shows with up to 18 hours of battery life, which would be the longest ever on MacBook Air.

They're also equipped with a Retina display, a Magic Keyboard, Touch ID, a force trackpad, and two thunderbolt ports.

This new model can have up to 16GB of RAM and up to 2TB of hard drive space, starting at $999 dollars.

The new MacBook Air comes in three colors - Space Gray, Gold, and Silver.

They can be ordered from Tuesday on Apple's website and will be available for delivery on November 17th.

MacBook Pro 2020

With the M1 chip and Big Sur, the new MacBook Pro gets its own power boost.

Apple says the 8-core CPU is up to 2.8x faster than the previous generation, delivering game-changing performance when writing code, exporting video, editing high-resolution photos, and more.

Meanwhile, the 8-core GPU is said to be up to 5x faster, allowing users to enjoy super-smooth graphics performance whether they are designing a graphics-intensive game or other software.

It's also supposed to be up to 3x faster than the best-selling Windows laptop in its class.

The new MacBook Pro is also supposed to have up to 17 hours of wireless web browsing and up to 20 hours of video playback, which would make the battery life twice that of the previous generation and the longest battery life ever on a Mac.

They're also equipped with studio-quality mics for clearer recordings and calls, a Retina display, a Magic Keyboard with a Touch Bar, Touch ID, a force trackpad, and two thunderbolt ports.

This new model can have up to 16GB of RAM and up to 2TB of hard drive space.

The new MacBook Pro starts at $1,299, it comes in two sizes (13-inches and 16 inches), and it comes in two colors - Space Gray and Silver.

They can be ordered on Apple's website now and they will be available for delivery on November 17th.

Mac Mini 2020

The final upgrade in the Mac series is the Mac Mini, which boasts several new performance features like:

  • Rendering a complex timeline in Final Cut Pro up to 6x faster.
  • Ability to use up to 3 times as many real-time plug-ins in Logic Pro.
  • Increase the resolution of a photo in Pixelmator Pro up to 15x faster.
  • Utilize ML frameworks like TensorFlow or Create ML, now accelerated by the M1 chip

Mac mini also features a new thermal design to keep up performance times while staying cool and quiet, with support for up to two displays.

This new model can have up to 16GB of RAM and up to 2TB of hard drive space.

It is now available to order today for $699, $100 less than the previous-generation model, and it will be delivered starting November 17th.

macOS Big Sur

All new Macs come with Big Sur, the latest version of Apple's desktop operating system.

Big Sur introduces a redesigned look which Apple says is entirely new yet instantly familiar.

They also say there are updates to apps including Safari, Messages, and Maps.

Just like the iPhone and iPad, the Mac now instantly wakes from sleep.

Browsing with Safari is also supposed to be up to 1.5x faster at running JavaScript and nearly 2x more responsive.

macOS Big Sur will be available for download on November 12th.
