Uber is updating its in-app Safety Toolkit with a new discreet feature you can use in an emergency.
In an email to users, Uber revealed the launch of its new text-to-911 service, letting you send a message to dispatchers quickly and discreetly, directly from the app.
Whether you call or text, the emergency button lets you quickly share information with 911 dispatchers.
When you text 911, the app automatically puts together a text message with trip details, including the make and model, license plate number, and location of the car you are in, so authorities can quickly respond and send help your way.
Here's how you use it:
- Tap the blue shield in the bottom-right hand corner to open the Safety Toolkit.
- Tap 911 Assistance.
- Select Text 911 to send a pre-populated SMS.
This update comes not long after Uber rolled out its On-Trip Reporting feature in February.
