Man charged in convenience store robbery

Posted

Police have formally charged a man in connection with the armed robbery of a Cottonwood Heights convenience store in May.

Daniel Sloan Bonito has been charged with aggravated robbery and being a restricted felon in possession of a weapon.

Police said tips from FOX 13 viewers lead detectives to focus on Bonito after security video of the May 4throbbery at Merc Market on Bengal Boulevard was aired.

Sandy City Police are also looking at Bonito as a person of interest in a home invasion burglary where an 11-year-old girl confronted an armed man with dark hair in her home.

The home invasion happened a week after the robbery and the home is about a mile from the store.

Sandy detectives are awaiting crime lab results on physical evidence at the scene before commenting further on that case.
