SALT LAKE CITY — A family evacuated after a fire started in the basement of their home in Salt Lake City Thursday morning.
Firefighters say they responded to the fire at 1:12 a.m. at 1636 S. Jefferson Street (about 200 West).
Fire crews say one of the residents said the fire started in the basement and to enter the the stairs from the back of the house to get to the fire easier.
Salt Lake Fire Capt. Arnie Ainge says firefighters took the back stairs and doused the flames quickly.
Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the main and second level floors.
Red Cross assisted the family with a place to stay overnight.
There were no serious injuries reported.
