WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah–Two people are behind bars after a routine traffic stop for littering turned into a foot chase early Sunday morning.

West Valley City Police said they tried to pull a driver over for littering, but the suspects allegedly attempted to flee on foot.

Police said they used a police dog to track the suspects to a nearby home where they were hiding. The suspect already had a warrant out for his arrest. He was also booked into jail for possession of heroin.

Another passenger in the car is in jail on a warrant for drug related charges.
