MIDVALE, Utah – A man from California barricaded himself in a room at the Midvale Motel 6 for a short time on Friday.
Unified Police say they were notified by the 30-year-old man’s parents that he was suicidal inside the motel room and they were concerned.
Officers arrived to make a welfare check. They made contact with the man at the door but he was uncooperative.
When the man started cutting himself, officers went in.
“Negotiations broke down, he started to cut himself. We forced entry. He was armed with knife, he had to be tazed and pepper sprayed and taken into custody,” said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.
The man was taken to the hospital where he was treated for minor cuts and wounds. He will also have a psychological evaluation.
