OGDEN, Utah – An Ogden police officer was dragged behind a vehicle for a short distance when he approached a vehicle on a warrant stop, and the suspect led police on a high-speed chase.
Lt. Will Cragun, Ogden Police Department, said the incident began at around 7:50 p.m. in the area of 9th street and Liberty Avenue in Ogden. The officer approached the vehicle to make traffic stop for a traffic citation and an outstanding warrant.
As the officer was in the process of taking the suspect out of the vehicle the suspect fled. The officer’s shirt got caught on the vehicle and he was dragged a short distance. He sustained minor injuries.
Police chased the suspect at high-speed. During the chase the suspect hit two vehicles in the area of 11th street and Lincoln Avenue. The occupants of those vehicles suffered minor injuries. The suspect turned down a side street and hit a street sign, after which he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
The man was taken into custody after police used Tasers to subdue him.
Police identified the man as Cesar Guevara. Police said Guevara was in possession of illegal narcotics, and he was booked on charges of felony narcotics possession as well as assault on an officer.
