SALT LAKE CITY - The hope for a Utah Jazz playoff berth is over after a 86-70 loss to Memphis on Wednesday night.
The playoff hopes depended on both a Jazz (43-39) win and a loss by the Los Angeles Lakers. Only one of those games ended up being important as the Jazz lost just as the Lakers were set to tip off against the Houston Rockets.
The game was close for the first half and the Jazz went into halftime behind 40-38. But a bad third quarter for the Jazz put the win out of reach.
The score was 65-51 at the beginning of the fourth and the Grizzlies (56-26) were able to keep that lead, finishing with a 86-70 win.
Al Jefferson had 22 points and 16 rebounds. Derrick Favors added 11 rebounds. No other Jazz player scored over 10 points as the team scored 32.1 percent from the floor.
