SALT LAKE CITY - One person is dead after a collision with a UDOT vehicle on I-80.
It happened about 9:30 Wednesday morning at mile marker 108, near 7200 West. The Utah Department of Transportation said one of their work trucks was spraying weeds on the left shoulder of the road when it was hit from behind. Utah Highway Patrol troopers said the Audi slammed into the back of the truck at a high rate of speed. The driver of the Audi was killed.
Troopers said part of the UDOT vehicle was protruding into the left hand lane, but there were arrow lights showing drivers to go around. Troopers aren't sure what caused the crash, but they said they will check phone records to see if the driver may have been distracted.
The westbound lanes of I-80 were closed for a couple hours as troopers investigated the crash. The driver of the utility vehicle was not hurt.
