WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — It was a day of celebration in Utah for those with ties to Mexico on Sunday, and Centro Civico Mexicano in West Valley City hosted an annual Cinco de Mayo celebration.

The event featured traditional Mexican food, dancing and music. The holiday celebrates a military victory the Mexican Army had against France at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, but these days the holiday is celebrated by many.

Hillary Kollner, Telemundo, said they are happy to welcome anyone to the celebrations.

“We’re just trying to bring everyone together, bring bonds of any person who might not even be from a Latino community to bring them to celebrate and bring the community together,” she said.

The celebration wrapped up with a Zaragosa Awards banquet and a Cinco de Mayo jam.
