Man dies in Wayne Co. BASE jumping accident

HANKSVILLE, Utah – A 35-year-old man died in a BASE jumping accident in Wayne County on Friday.

The accident happened early Friday morning near Angel Point Trailhead by the Dirty Devil River, 10 miles southeast of Hanksville.

Wayne County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kassidee Brown said that two men were BASE jumping in the area when a 35-year-old man, from Australia, fell approximately 600 feet to his death.

The man’s body was recovered with the help of a Utah Highway Patrol helicopter, then transported to the medical examiner.

The man’s name hasn’t been released pending notification of family.

Investigators are still working to determine what led to the man’s death.
