SANDY -- Police have launched a homicide investigation after a body was found near the Jordan River Friday morning.
Lt. Justin Hoyal, Unified Police Department, said the body was discovered by a driver who became stuck in the mud while traveling on a road in a wooded area by the river. Police were called to the scene, near 9000 S 700 W, at about 1:14 a.m.
"Right now, we don't have any leads as to who this individual is. We know that it's an adult, or what appears to be an adult, but we don't know a gender or an age or a cause of death yet because of the decomposition on the body," Hoyal said. "Throughout the morning, that's one of the things that we hope to be able to identify is who this individual is."
The scene was processed for evidence by homicide detectives and the body was taken by the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
