SALT LAKE CITY — A missionary from Canada who was serving with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Guatemala died Monday due to injuries he sustained in a vehicle accident Saturday.
According to a statement from LDS Church Spokeswoman Ruth Todd, Elder Joshua Allan Burton, 23, of Alberta, Canada died Monday night, “from trauma sustained in a vehicle accident two days prior.”
Three other missionaries involved in the accident sustained only minor injuries.
The statement said in part: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Elder Burton’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
